BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – UPDATE (10/12/2024 at 9:45 p.m.): The five fires north of Double Ditch in northwest Burleigh County are now 80% contained, according to the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services.
UPDATE (10/12/2024 at 9 p.m.): Through an agreement with the North Dakota Forest Service, a strike team and five fire engines from Washington state were en route to the Bear Den Fire in northwest North Dakota, but were re-routed to help fight the fires north of Bismarck.
UPDATE (10/12/2024 at 8 p.m.): Burleigh County Emergency Manager Mary Senger said fire conditions are slowing as of 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
She said there were a total of five fires in the area as of that time.
She confirmed the fires are now at about 50% contained.
Emergency management asks the public to avoid the area at this time.
ORIGINAL STORY (10/12/2024 at 6:30 p.m.): According to Burleigh County’s emergency manager, there are four fires near the Double Ditch area as of Saturday evening. They estimate the fires are about a mile long.
The involved agencies include the North Dakota Forest Service, Bismarck Rural Fire Department, Wilton Rural Fire Department and the Bismarck Fire Department. The National Guard has also deployed two Blackhawks.
