Tel Aviv: Israeli police investigating deadly explosion

CNN
 —

Israeli police are investigating an explosion that killed one person and injured another in Tel Aviv on Sunday evening.

The unidentified person who died is believed to have been carrying the explosive material, District Commander Peretz Amar said.

The injured person was taken to a hospital after being hit by shrapnel in the lower body.

The blast comes as the city remains on high alert amid rising regional tensions related to the war in Gaza. It was not clear whether the act was linked to the complex security situation.

Amar said that it was “too early to say” whether it was a terrorist attack.

Police said they received dozens of calls reporting the loud explosion on HaLehi Street.
